Yet another S'porean film site: sgNewWave

Students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Film and Media Studies have set up their own film commentary site, ambitiously called sgNewWave. Moreover, they apparently want to make this site the Singapore equivalent of Cahiers du Cinema.

Well, we'll see.

I like how their masthead is a nod to Sight & Sound, but did they really have to use Impact?

we'll see indeed, but meanwhile, we should appreciate the fact that there is still appreciation, here, that is.

Is Ang Lee actually a traditionalist of sorts ? This is a decade where "New" actually refers to a lot of established narrative styles.
Where the craft of the Director stands out is the performances he gets from the cast. BTW, there is an Indian actor in the film "Lust, Caution" - it's Anupam Kher as an Indian jeweller in Shanghai.

At another level, there is the struggle between Eros and Thanatos - the typified life and death forces - there is passion and there's a plot to kill. It's wartime and sacrifices of love and life will be required.

The film is released in Singapore in early October, but Mumbai/New Delhi will have to wait somewhat longer. Anupam Kher's cameo is likely to stir interest in the international movie buffs here.
